Trevor Gunn seminar 30th September 2007

The seminar was held in Bath at Kingswood school. About 35 people attended most of whom had studied homoeopathy.

Trevor Gunn is a graduate in medical biochemistry and a practising homoeopath. He also has friends in the pharmaceutical industry, who he studied with, which led to some interesting inside information, some of which he shared.

I had read Trevor’s book, amongst others, on vaccination, and didn’t need convincing that vaccination was not the way forward for the health of the people. On the way to the seminar, I was wondering why I had come - I felt I knew enough, and my time /money would have been better spent elsewhere.  And actually the topic of vaccination could be quite boring. However, it was far from boring, and I did learn new stuff, and came away with a better understanding of the subject and more confidence in my beliefs. And had an enjoyable and stimulating day with fellow people who wanted truth in their lives.

Trevor was a very dynamic speaker. I was surprised how young he looked, having accomplished so much in his life already. He didn’t talk from notes, he knew the subject so well. Thus the talk felt more personally given to us, and we felt as if we got to know him  a bit, as he was talking from his heart, and not from notes, or overhead projectors etc.

Despite the heavy nature of the talk, Trevor put his points across simply and effectively. He said that one of his aims in writing the book was to make the subject more accessible to the layman. He was also humourous, and had  involved the audience by asking questions, and making us work to find the answers from ourselves, so there was little chance of  just sitting there and being spoon-fed.

The bulk of the talk was along the same lines as his book “comparing natural immunity with vaccination”, but there was the added dimension of it being delivered in the flesh, and there were lots of anecdotes and examples which really filled in any gaps. To my mind he brought it so simply and logically, it made vaccination seem a nonsense. He had an easy ride in one sense because he was rather preaching to the converted. I would have been interested to hear the questions of people who believed in the efficacy of vaccination.

I found particularly interesting his study of how illnesses became more internal and more serious as they were suppressed. This seemed to fit in very nicely with the miasmatic theory and Hering’s Law of Cure.

In the latter part of the seminar Trevor talked a bit more about the philosophy of health and homoeopathy , and brought up some ideas of people who we might do well to research further. E.g. Parmenides (a Greek philosopher who Peter  Kingsley has written books about) who talked about the idea that everyone has to do their own learning, and get over their own illness, which is opposite to current idea of health. And Michel Odent who talks about learned helplessness.

Trevor also talked about his use diet and his experience of Emotional Freedom Technique and using Carcinosin. These I think many of us could not easily reconcile with our understanding of the philosophy, and it would be interesting to question him further, or do our own research into these areas.

There were some interesting questions at the end. Trevor was not afraid to say he didn’t know to some. One question that I found particularly interesting and of relevance to us was: “if the germ theory does not make sense, and we are not invaded from the outside by microbes, what is happening when it seems as though “bugs” are being passed around?” There was not a definitive answer to this, but Trevor did give us some useful pointers and things to think about, so that we could answer the question for ourselves, and reach our own understanding. I think it is a question that we all need to address and to be comfortable with, as it is a question we face daily and could easily be asked.

I suggest that anyone who did not attend the seminar, to look out for future ones, and to definitely read a copy of his book.
